| The
highest-flying bird is thought to be the BAR-HEADED GOOSE, it's been spotted
at 30,000 ft. That's as high as commercial airplanes fly! |

The
FARTHEST-FLYING BIRD is the ARCTIC TERN. It flies 20,000 miles a year
in its migration from the North Pole. Since it flies from one summer to
another, it spends more time in the sun than any other creature on EARTH! |
| The
FASTEST-FLYING BIRD is the CANVASBACK DUCK. Flapping its wings, it can
reach horizontal speeds of 70 miles/hour. HOWEVER, the PEREGRINE FALCON
can DIVE at 150 mph while hunting. |

 |
HUMMINGBIRDS
beat their wings 75 times/second. The RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD migrates

up in the water till they're going fast enough to take off. They can fly
for as long as 15 seconds and travel 600 ft. |

 |
DRAGONFLIES
are the most maneuverable fliers around. Their eyes have 30,000 lenses
so they can see in ALL directions. They can fly 35 mph, hover and fly
backwards. Prehistoric dragonflies had TWO-FOOT wing spans, the size of
a seagull! Now the biggest is a South American dragonfly with a 71/2 inch
wingspan. |
| The
MALAYSIAN COLUGO or "flying lemur" can glide farther than any
